Your learner's permit

At least 15. Before the permit you complete 30 classroom hours and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, then pass a vision screening and the knowledge test. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 7)
What is a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) in Louisiana?
A TIP lets a driver education student drive with the instructor and take the knowledge and road skills tests. The OMV issues it from age 14, and every new driver needs one before testing. (Louisiana OMV: Permits)

A licensed adult who is at least 21, or a licensed brother or sister who is at least 18. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 7)
How many practice hours does a Louisiana teen need?
Fifty hours behind the wheel with a licensed parent, guardian or adult 21 or older, with at least 15 of them after dark. A parent or legal guardian signs a statement confirming the hours before the intermediate license. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 7)
Your intermediate and full license

No driving from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. without a licensed adult 21 or older or a sibling 18 or older in the car, and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. no more than one passenger under 21 who is not immediate family. You keep it until you turn 17. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 7)

No. Louisiana law bars drivers 17 or younger from using a wireless device to make calls or to write, send or read texts while driving. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 111)

You don't have to go through the graduated program. Complete a 38-hour driver education course, or a 6-hour pre-licensing course plus 8 hours behind the wheel, then apply for a learner's permit or a full Class E license. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 7)
Keeping your license
How long is a Louisiana driver's license valid?
Six years from your nearest birthday. You can renew up to 180 days before it expires, and you must pass a vision screening each time. (Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide, p. 10)
