The knowledge exam
How many questions are on the Georgia permit test?
Two parts of 20 questions each: road signs and road rules. You must answer 15 of 20 correctly in each part to pass. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 12)
What happens if I fail?
After a first failure you wait until the next day to retake the part you failed; after a second or later failure you wait 7 days. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 13)
Can I take the road signs test in another language?
No. The road rules test is offered in some other languages, but the road signs part and the driving test are given in English only. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 12)
Can I bring my phone into the test?
No. Phones and other wireless devices aren't allowed in the testing area, and misconduct counts as a failed exam. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 12)
Your permit
How old must I be to get a permit in Georgia?
You can apply for a Class C instructional permit at 15 or older. Under 18 you also need proof of school enrollment and a responsible adult to sign. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 26)
Who can supervise me on a permit?
A licensed Class C driver who is at least 21, fit and able to take control, sitting in the seat beside you. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 8)
Teen drivers
What are the Class D curfew and passenger rules?
No driving from midnight to 5 a.m. First six months: only immediate family as passengers. Next six months: one non-family passenger under 21. After that: up to three. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 27)
What is Joshua's Law?
Georgia's driver education rule for 16 and 17-year-olds: an approved course (30 hours of class or online) plus 6 hours with an instructor or the Parent/Teen Driving Guide, and 40 hours of practice with 6 at night. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 27)
Rules of the road
What does Georgia's Move Over law require?
Move to a lane away from a stopped emergency, sanitation or utility vehicle with flashing lights; if you can't, slow below the speed limit and be ready to stop. (Georgia Drivers' Manual, p. 18)
How much room must I give a bicyclist?
