No accounts, no personal details

There are no accounts on Yield & Go. You don't need to give your name, email address, phone number or any other personal details to use the site, and we don't sell information about you.

If you contact us

Our contact form is sent through Formspree, a form service that delivers messages to our inbox. It receives what you type (your message, the topic and state you pick, and your email address if you choose to give one) along with standard technical details such as your IP address, and filters out spam. We use your message only to answer it and to fix the site, and your email address only to reply. You can read Formspree's privacy policy.

What is saved on your device

To let you resume a test, see your best score and use "Practice my weak spots", the site saves a few items in your browser's local storage: tests in progress, your best practice exam scores, and which handbook chapters you've missed questions from. This information stays in your browser on your device and is never sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

What our servers receive

When you take a test, your browser asks our server for questions and sends the answers you pick so they can be checked. These requests don't include personal details. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested). We use it only to keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.

Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

To stop automated programs from copying our questions, starting a test runs a quick check by Cloudflare Turnstile. It usually happens in the background; now and then it may ask you to tick a box. Turnstile looks at technical signals from your browser and connection, such as your IP address and browser type, to tell people from bots. It doesn't ask who you are, and Cloudflare says it doesn't use cookies for tracking or build profiles of visitors. You can read Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how Yield & Go is used so we can improve it: for example, which pages are visited, which states and practice topics are popular, where tests are started and finished, and whether the site works well on phones.

Google Analytics collects:

  • the pages you visit, how long you stay, and the site that sent you here (such as a search engine);
  • your device type, browser, operating system, screen size and language;
  • your approximate location (country, region and city), worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses;
  • events on our pages, such as choosing a state, starting a practice test, and the mode, score and pass or fail at the end. We don't send the questions you see or the answers you pick, and we never send your name, email address or anything else that identifies you.

To tell visits apart, Google Analytics sets its own cookies on yieldandgo.com (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an id). They hold a random number, not your name, and stay in your browser for up to two years unless you clear them.

We set up Google Analytics to collect as little as we need:

  • Google signals is off, so your visits aren't linked to your Google account;
  • data isn't used for personalized advertising, and we don't share it with Google's advertising products;
  • detailed analytics data is deleted after 2 months (we keep only overall totals, such as visits per page).

Google processes this data for us, and it may be handled on servers in the United States and other countries. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.

Cookies

Yield & Go's own code doesn't set cookies. The only cookies on the site come from the Google services described above (Analytics). You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings; the practice tests still work without them. We plan to show ads later to keep the site free. Before ads are switched on, we will update this policy to describe them and how to opt out.

Your choices

  • Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere: install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Block or clear cookies: use your browser's settings. Private or incognito windows also clear them when closed.
  • Sale and sharing: we don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

Do Not Track: browsers' "Do Not Track" setting has no agreed standard, so the site doesn't change what it does when it receives one. The opt-out and cookie choices above work whatever that setting is.

Children

Yield & Go is meant for people preparing for a driver permit, usually 15 or older. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Links to other sites

We link to official state websites and handbooks. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the date above.
